Junior and Leaving Certificate
KEY TERMS
– Superintendent: The person who supervises each exam centre
– Exam Centre: In Our Lady of Mercy College, this includes the concert hall and designated
classrooms
– Candidate : The student sitting exams
CONDUCT OF CANDIDATES
School Support
– Normal school rules apply throughout the examination period
– The Exam Aide is Ms. Sherry who will support you and help with questions
– Ms. Gray (Principal) and Ms. Howard (Deputy Principal) will also help you
Examination Venues
– Junior Certificate (3rd Years): Exams will take place in the concert hall
– Leaving Certificate (6th Years) Exams will take place in Room 29 and Room 30
– Special Centres: Different rooms will be allocated for both 3rd and 6th year students with reasonable accommodations
PUNCTUALITY
Arrival Times
– First Day : You must be present at least 30 minutes before the exam begins
– Other Days You must arrive at least 15 minutes before each exam
– Late Arrival: You will not be allowed into the exam if you are **30 minutes late**
During the Examination
– You cannot leave the examination room until
30 minutes after the exam begins
– You are not allowed to leave the room in the
last 30 minutes** of the exam
– If you need to leave the room during the exam:
You must ask permission from the superintendent
The time of your departure and return will be noted on your exam booklet
EXAMINATION PROCEDURES
Communication
– You cannot communicate with other students during the exam
– You must raise your hand if you need to speak with the superintendent
– Remain in your seat until all papers have been collected
Seating and Exam Papers
– You must sit in the seat allocated to you by the superintendent with your exam number
– It is your responsibility to let the superintendent know if you have been given an incorrect exam paper or level
– In some subjects there are two papers – you must sit the same level for both papers
– You cannot write your name on the answer book – use only your assigned examination number
– Your examination number must be written on all sheets you use during the exams
PROHIBITED ITEMS
You are not allowed to bring into the exams:
– Books
– Paper
– Mobile phones
– Notes
Calculators
– Approved calculators are allowed but will not be supplied to you
– It is your responsibility to make sure your calculator works
– Calculators must be silent
– No borrowing of calculators is permitted
– Programmable calculators are not allowed – check with your teacher
– Calculators may be inspected – note make and model
REMINDERS
– A list of exam centres will be posted on the on the wall at the concert hall
– Avoid stressing other students – consider how your behaviour affects them (e.g., chewing gum, toilet breaks)
– No communication with other students – your paper may be cancelled
– You must leave the centre at lunch time
– Do not leave exams early
– Attempt all answers – you have spent years working for this exam
– Full school uniform must be worn
Uniform Donation
Old uniforms can be donated to the school when you finish your exams.
They can be left in Ms. O’Reilly’s room (HSLO).
