Sports

Sports plays an integral part of school life in Our Lady of Mercy College Beaumont. We have a huge variety of sports on offer and our teams cater for every standard of player.

Studies have shown that students can benefit greatly from participation in extra-curricular activities. It also leads to more success and greater achievements in school work as well as an increase in higher educational attainments. Students who participate in extracurricular activities such as team sports also tend to be more successful in developing friendships and relationships in general.

We offer a wide range of sports in our school.

  • Archery – Our Lady of Mercy College Beaumont offers archery in association with DCU Archery Club and Archery Ireland. Here at Archery you’ll learn the safe steps to practising Archery within an indoor environment. The styles of Archery practised here are either Barebow or Recurve archery with equipment and training provided free of charge. You’ll be introduced to competition-style shooting and scoring and understand the fundamentals behind Archery at the competition level in a safe manner. It’s a fun sport, suited to all age groups and fitness levels and requires no previous experience for participation.
  • Badminton – Here in Mercy Beaumont our students have been very successful in badminton over the years. Most recently, in 2018 we won both the Junior and Senior division four Badminton Championship. Our PE hall facilitates four badminton courts for students to practice.
  • Gaelic Football – GAA plays an important role in Our Lady of Mercy College. We have both Junior and Senior teams.  The Junior and Senior seasons commence in September and take place throughout the first two terms.
  • Soccer – Training takes place every Thursday morning before school. The students are developing their skills and enjoying the matches during training. Lily, our Sports Prefect helps organise the students and is a great asset to the coaching team.
  • Tag Rugby – is a  non-tackle minimal contact version of Rugby.  The aim of the game is to ground the ball over your opponent’s try line, to score a try. Rugby is a skillful game that requires good coordination and quick thinking, strength and great communication skills. Training takes place every Tuesday from 4pm – 5pm in the Sports Hall.  All players, new and old, experienced and inexperienced, are always welcome to try their hand at this fast and skillful game.
