Welcome back to this final term for this school year. We have a busy term ahead and of course our state exam classes will be getting into gear if they haven’t started already. Sixth and TY Student will graduate and parents will be attending these ceremonies.
Mercy Beaumont’s Mega Mix-Tape:90’s Edition
The TY students will be performing in their school musical production on the 12th, 13th and 15th of May . The rehearsals are hitting optimun levels in preparation for what looks like will be a great show. Ms Murphy and Ms Doherty are working them hard to get the cast in shape. Tickets will go on sale soon, so don’t be left out! All the family are invited but you must have a ticket !

9th of April- 9.30am -10.30am Wednesday Yoga Class – Free of charge to all parents/guardians/grandparents.
30th of April 6pm talk on AI – An Introductory Talk on Artificial Intelligence by our maths/computer/eal teacher Mr Rodin Ozalp. Find out what it is, how you get and what to use it for. This talk is for free for all our parents/guardians and grandparents.
30th April 7pm – Parents Association Meeting – the last meeting of this school year! New parents are always welcome to come along
Wed 7th of May,10am, school library; Childline have produced a series of webinars giving talks and advice on various topics to do with young people and school. We will be showing the following webinar along with a coffee/tea and a chat throughout.That webinar is titled ‘Coping with Exam Anxiety a webinar for parents’. That will be of particular interest to our exam year group parents but we find that other students can get anxious with our house exams.
Wed 7th of May, 11am -1pm – Candle making workshop- all parents/grandparents/guardians welcome. let me know if you would like to participate on the day because we have to prepare the materials in advance. The last workshop was a lot of fun and creative too!. Text me at 086 1857703.
Non violent Resistance Course(NVR) Donnycarney Youth Project will be running a program meant to empower parents and guardians were their relationship with their child/ren has gotten out of hand. The program begins on the 7th of May from 7.30 until 9pm for 8 weeks, and it is free of charge. This highly recommended course is run free of charge and it will change the way you see your situation
Listed below are the core elements of the NVR Programme
Parental Commitment to Non Violent Resistance: parents commit to resisting violence and
to avoiding violence when responding to their child, regardless of the provocation. This
includes committing to avoiding verbal as well as physical aggression
De-escalation Skills: The development of parental self-management and self-calming skills
to de-escalate and avoid unnecessary confrontations.
Increased Parental Presence: changing the ways in which a parent is present in their child’s
life and re-focusing interactions away from persistent conflict
The Support Network: the parents’ disclosure about the extent of the problem of violence
with a number of significant people who they also invite to be part of a support network,
such as grand-parents, aunts and or uncles, or friends
Family Announcement: an announcement to the family that violence at home will no
longer be tolerated (during the announcement, the type of violence is clearly specified)
Acts of Reconciliation: spontaneous unearned treats and/or gestures of encouragement
(words/actions/events) offered by parents to their child.
